Last week, the shooting of the new Dutch feature film SLEEP. was completed under the direction of Jan-Willem van Ewijk (ATLANTIC.), who wrote the screenplay with Claytie Mason. The lead roles are portrayed by Bart Groenendaal, Artis Wouters and Flemish actress Joke Devynck. Jasper Wolf is in charge of the cinematography. Most of the filming took place in America.
Logline:
Dutch Daniel takes a road trip with his teenage daughter Artis through the United States. When his daughter disappears during that trip, he slowly loses all grip on reality.
Director Jan-Willem van Ewijk: "What an incredible adventure this was! Filming in four different states with people who had never played in a movie before. Members of the Arapahoe and Shoshone tribes, hunters, cowboys, policemen, surfers; all of them took over the screen with their amazing presence during this dream journey."
SLEEP. is Jan-Willem van Ewijk's third feature film. In 2006 he debuted with the film NU. which premiered at the Netherlands Film Festival where it received a special mention for best feature debut and won the Grand Prix at the European Independent Film Festival. This was followed in 2014 by his second feature film ATLANTIC. which was selected for International Film Festival Toronto.
SLEEP. is produced by The Film Kitchen (Jan van der Zanden and Ineke Kanters) in co-production with Savage Film (BE) and NTR and is made with support from the Netherlands Film Fund, Netherlands Film Production Incentive, CoBO, VAF, Belgian Tax Shelter, Creative Europe MEDIA and Eurimages. Distributor September Film will release SLEEP. in theaters in due time.
